About the event

The Theatre Institute and the National Museum in Gdańsk invite you on 21 October at 6 pm to a meeting around the book Memory of Theatre. Polish theatrical photography from the beginning of its existence until today, which will take place in the Department of Modern Art of the National Museum in Gdańsk. Admission is free.

Memory of the theater is a paper version of the virtual exhibition of the same name. The first initiative, which attempts to summarize the history of Polish theatrical photography and the history of Polish theater in the context of the emergence and development of the medium of photography. This is the first, but one of many possible narratives. In cooperation with numerous institutions and private individuals, the curatorial team selected four hundred facilities. Selected photographs — often presented to the public for the first time and placed side by side — allow us to look at the evolution of theatre photography in Poland from its origins to the present, tracing technological, artistic and social changes and their impact on theatre photography.

After Warsaw, Wrocław and Krakow, the meeting around the Memorial of the theatre accompanies the exhibition Idols of Perversion by Zofia de Ines, shown in the Department of Modern Art of the National Museum in Gdańsk, where some of the photographs included in the publication are presented.

The meeting will be attended by: Wojciech Nowicki, Agnieszka Wanikka and Anita Wasik. The conversation will be moderated by Kacper Nadolski.

The book can be purchased at the Theatre Institute's Prospero Bookstore (online and in-store).
