About the event

“Truly Hitler died” — screening of the film directed by Monika Strzępka We cordially invite you to the screening of the film “Truly Hitler Died” according to the script by Paweł Demirski and directed by Monika Strzępka, which will take place on November 28 at 18:00 on the Stage in the Painting Room.

After the screening, there will be a meeting with the director of the film, who is known to the theatrical audience primarily for her theatrical achievements. For more than a dozen years, together with playwright Paweł Demirski, Monika Strzępka created an artistic tandem, realizing dozens of performances throughout Poland. Over the years, these performances shaped the imagination of viewers and had a significant impact on changing the thinking about fundamental issues for Polish society.

During the meeting, Monika Strzępka will talk about her experiences working on film, the transition from theatre to cinema and how the language of storytelling changes when the stage is replaced by a screen. It will also be an opportunity to talk about the process of making a film, working with actors and what cinema allows us to say differently than theater.

“Truly Hitler is Dead” is set in an alternate reality — in Europe, where the Nazis won World War II. Years later, a new generation breaks away from the ideology of their parents and tries to rebuild the world — on a foundation of memory, guilt, and accountability. But the past does not let itself be forgotten. When one day the sea throws a mysterious red-haired boy ashore, the fragile balance begins to shake. His appearance sets in motion a series of disturbing events that undermine everything that was supposed to be shut down — and force the protagonists to look again in the face of what was supposed to never return.

The film was produced by Studio Munka and the Association of Polish Filmmakers.

Monika Strzępka Theatre director, graduate of the A. Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw. Her work includes more than 30 performances, including: “Grandfathers. Exhumation”, “Long live the war”, “Diamonds are coal that went to work”, “There was Andrew, Andrew, Andrew and Andrew”, “The Midwives of St. Sophia Hospital”, “Non-Divine Comedy. I will tell God everything”, “In the name of Jacob S.”, “Triumph of the will”. In 2016, she directed the TV series “Artists” for TVP. Winner of several dozen awards (including Laur Konrad, Grand Prix of the Divine Comedy Festival, Grand Prix of R @port Festival, Passport of Polityka). In the years 2022—2023 she was the director of the G. Holoubek Drama Theatre.
