About the film

In a seemingly quiet village, where everyday life sets the rhythm of nature, the lone owner of a small herd of cows tries to protect his world from the pressure of the environment. He does not see that the real threat is growing within himself—quietly and imperceptibly.

“Zarzewie” is an intimate psychological drama set in the Polish province. It is about violence that does not have to be the result of a single event or an overt conflict. It can lie deep beneath the surface of everyday life, in the very nature of man. It's a story about a world where good and cruelty grow side by side, and the line between care and harm remains unclear.

The film raises questions about the evil present in every human being and about the line between empathy and violence. The project was highly appreciated by the committee of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School as a niche drama in the trend of slow cinema. Realistic acting and building tension with minimalist narration were appreciated.
