The Zdun Art Gallery is a space for encounters with art that will stimulate your imagination, move and open up new perspectives. It arises from the belief that direct contact with artistic creativity should be a natural part of city life — accessible to residents and inspiring for visitors.

About the event

The Zdun Art Gallery is a space for encounters with art that will stimulate your imagination, move and open up new perspectives. It arises from the belief that direct contact with artistic creativity should be a natural part of city life — accessible to residents and inspiring for visitors.

The place where the gallery will operate already has its history in the cultural life of Zduńska Wola. At the turn of the century, XX and XXI. residents came here for concerts and discos. For many, it was the time of the first musical discoveries, meetings and acquaintances that lasted for years. Today, the familiar address is gaining a new purpose. Music and entertainment give way to the visual arts, but what remains is what unites both chapters of this story: the possibility of experiencing culture together.

Located next to the recently revitalized Paweł Królikowski Square, near the City Park and the historic houses of Zduńskola weavers, with daily walking routes, the gallery invites you to discover art at your own pace. It will be possible to come here with a specific interest or look out of curiosity, stop in front of the work, share impressions and find your own meanings. We want everyone to feel at ease, regardless of their knowledge and previous experience with art.

The gallery program will include exhibitions, meetings with artists and curators, and educational activities. We will introduce a variety of creative attitudes, show the process of creation of works and encourage a conversation about what art says about man and the modern world.

We will combine the presentation of recognized artists with openness to the local artistic environment and young talents. Of particular importance to us is the creation of opportunities to exchange experiences and develop creative sensitivity.

The gallery is part of a broader idea of the presence of art in Zduńska Wola — in exhibition halls, public spaces and everyday experiences of residents. We want to co-create a city where art becomes a reason to meet, a source of inspiration and an impulse to discover what goes beyond everyday life.

We invite you to watch, ask questions and come back. Each visit can bring a different perspective.

The opening of the Zdun Art Gallery will be inaugurated by an exhibition of works by Wojciech Siudmak, “Czyły dialog — An odyssey of cosmic cathedrals”.

There are worlds that can only be seen through imagination.

Wojciech Siudmak can give them shape. Painter, draftsman and sculptor. One of the most recognizable Polish artists in the world. In his work, human figures meet extraordinary architecture and cosmic spaces, and the precision of detail makes the impossible seem close.

It is his works that will open the first chapter of the Zdun Art Gallery. Among them will be works that have never been presented to the public before.

What will we see when we face them?

Wojciech Siudmak — painter, draftsman and sculptor, also creating in the field of design and jewelry art. He was born on October 10, 1942 in Wielun. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Since 1966 he has lived and created in France. He is one of the most recognizable Polish artists in the world, ranked among the leading representatives of fantastic realism and neo-surrealism. His art combines the Renaissance precision of the representation of the human body with limitless imagination, symbolism and visions of the cosmos. Fantastic characters, the architecture of impossible worlds and the transformations of matter create their own instantly recognizable Siudmak universe. His artistic motto remains the words: “Only a dream can cross all barriers.”

In the seventies he participated in France in the formation of a new visual culture related to science fiction and fantasy. In 1975, he began a three-decade-long collaboration with Pocket. His paintings have accompanied the works of Frank Herbert, H.P. Lovecraft, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, and Michael Moorcock, among others.

A special place is occupied by his French covers of the Dune series, which were among the visual inspirations of Denis Villeneuve, while Federico Fellini and George Lucas were also fascinated by Siudmak's work.

Between 1975 and 1977, his paintings were used three times in a row on posters related to the Cannes Film Festival. In Poland, his art gained immense recognition thanks to his many years of presence on the pages of “Fantastyka”. His works appeared on the covers of books and records, posters and in the setting of musical and stage events.

Out of his fascination with Chopin's music, an extensive series devoted to Nocturnes was created, and in 2014 a two-volume edition of Don Quixote by Cervantes with drawings by Siudmak was published.

The artist's works have been presented at more than a hundred exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Highlights included a retrospective at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 1989, an exhibition at the Eiffel Tower to mark the beginning of the third millennium, and a monumental display of his works at the Temple of Ramses III in Luxor in 2000.

Siudmak is also the creator of the World Peace Project and the Peace Prize, symbolized by the monumental sculpture Eternal Love, set in his native Wieluń.

For his artistic and cultural activities he received numerous distinctions, including the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, the Grand Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts-Sciences-Lettres, the title of Outstanding Pole in France, the Silver Medal “Merited to Culture Gloria Artis” and the emblem “Now Poland” for the Outstanding Pole in the World.

On April 28, 2026, the Wojciech Siudmak International Centre for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Science was officially announced in Łódź. In its creation, the TotuArt gallery, an exclusive march of the artist's work, played an important role. The first official event of the Centre will be the exhibition inaugurating its activities on 20 November 2026 at EC1 in Łódź.

“Affectionate Dialogue — An Odyssey of Cosmic Cathedrals”, exhibition at the Zdun Art Gallery

On October 25, 2026, the Zdun Art Gallery will inaugurate its activity with an exhibition of the works of Wojciech Siudmak, one of the most recognizable Polish artists associated with the trend of fantastic realism. The exhibition will allow us to discover the sources of imagination, from which two monumental realizations of the artist related to Zduńska Wola emerge: the sculpture Czyły Dialog and the ceramic composition Odyssey of Cosmic Cathedrals, which adorns the tower of the city hall.

The exhibition focuses on the artist's distinctive language, developed over decades, in which man becomes part of a larger order — a microcosm immersed in the vastness of the universe. On the canvases, the ancient beauty of the human body meets futuristic architecture, biological metamorphosis and cosmic scale. Familiar shapes undergo unexpected transformations: the body resembles a landscape, the machine acquires the characteristics of an organism, and a monumental structure becomes a trace of a mysterious, unknown civilization.

Siudmak creates visions that attract and disturb at the same time. Next to anatomically perfect figures and sublime beauty, there are deformities, fantastic hybrids, motifs of passing and death. The artist does not shy away from the dark sides of human nature. It carries eternal experiences such as love, desire, fear, loneliness and the desire for power into the space of distant planets and imaginary civilizations. Space here is not an escape from man, but a new stage for the story of his nature. The further the artist leads us from the Earth, the more clearly he reveals questions about ourselves: about the limits of humanity, the fragility of existence and the need for beauty.

Most of the images presented will be shown to the public for the first time. The exhibition will reveal not only the finished works, but also the elements of their creation. Indeed, not always the painting version of a work is the beginning of its history. It is often preceded by drawing — an extremely important stage in Siudmak's work, in which the artist achieved true mastery. It is on paper, line by line, that new worlds emerge: characters, their relationships with each other and the composition of the future picture. It will be a unique opportunity to trace how an elaborate artistic vision is born from a precise line.

A special place is occupied by chamber sculptures, showing Siudmak's imagination on a different scale than his monumental realizations. When viewed up close, they reveal the precision of modeling, the fascination with anatomy and the freedom with which the artist transforms the classical figure into forms that escape unambiguous definitions. Among the works presented will be Métamorphosis, Garde du Désert and Asteroïde, among others. The exhibition will also provide an opportunity to see the sculptures of the Affectionate Dialogue in conjunction with the triptych Odyssey of Cosmic Cathedrals, both in their original dimensions.

It is a journey into the depths of the imagination, in which cosmic visions lead to questions about man and his place in the universe.
