The battle for real estate between Czesnik and Rejent continues. Both are merciless and hope that the power will cure them of their monstrous loneliness. Art suppressed for 150 years by dignified productions is reborn in the Comedy Theater as an uncompromising conflict over property and influence. “Revenge” is a play about the spiritual problems of rich people and their insatiability. In a world of revenge, the potential for violence is always high. And sometimes violence erupts for any reason, and subsequent generations are involved in disputes.
Stage: Big Stage
“Revenge”, directed by Michał Zadara, breaks with the approach: “noble, that is, boring and after the letters” or “radical, that is, written again”. It is a contemporary staging, in the lights of a big city. But on the other hand, it is also “Revenge” without abbreviations, played in verse according to the record, “not rewritten” - and the one that Fredro wanted: with serious, complex and vivid characters whose ridiculousness is often compounded by tragedy.
If you think that in “Revenge” everything happens because of a dispute over the wall dividing the castle inhabited by Chesnik and Rejent into two parts, then here you will find out how it really was. Because the wall does not play any role in Fredra's plot, it is only an example of a tense situation. Anything can be a pretext for an outbreak of violence: even the masonry of a few bricks. You will say that this is still an example of the Polish-Polish war - we will answer: no, it is a picture of despair of personal dramas.
