Witty, salon intrigue in a 19th-century resort near Vienna. Old Vienna is the true protagonist of this one of the best and most popular operettas in the world. It took Johann Strauss, the famous “king of the waltz”, only a few weeks to compose the work and the premiere was a huge success. The audacious comedy of mistakes with an intriguing libretto in an excellent translation by Julian Tuwim has its admirers to this day.
