THE PROMISED LAND

Ballet in two acts. Music from the recording.

A New Zealand choreographer tells the story of Łódź with dance! Gray Veredon, fascinated by the city, Andrzej Wajda's film and the novel by Nobel laureate Reymont, created a unique and unique ballet. The images of old Łódź, the life of its inhabitants and the fates of the novel heroes intertwine in it in the rhythm set by the factory machines, emphasizing the originality of the atmosphere of the “city of yarns”. This is an extremely original theatrical performance, in which it is impossible not to feel the rhythm of the pulsating life of the city of factory fortunes, palace splendor and dramas of ordinary people.

Veredon remained loyal to Reymont. He preserved the most important plots of the novel. We learn the story of Anka, unhappily in love with Charles, his romance with Lucy Zucker, the intrigues of competitors, the rude Müller. However, the main character of the show remains the city, and above all the nameless creators of its power: weavers, dyers, Łódź workers. Gray Veredon's Promised Land is a deeply moving spectacle, dedicated to the cultural identity of Łódź.
