Something of Beethoven’s unique energy and free‑spirited individualism resonates with these Ukrainian musicians, who bring a spectacular programme inspired by dance. Brahms opens in high spirits with his famous Hungarian Dance No. 5, followed by Mozart’s elegant and joyful K.467 concerto, known to many from the film Elvira Madigan. Manu Martin’s Lim Fantasy of Companionship tells an optimistic story of a girl and her toy in a concerto‑fantasy that fuses humanity, technology and love, while Nebesnyy’s Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors – likened to a Ukrainian Romeo and Juliet – adds dramatic ballet sweep. Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony crowns the evening in an exultant whirl of rhythm and abandon.
