A fascinating and mesmerizing story of the ruthless serial murders that spread panic in the San Francisco area in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Although the killer sadistically taunted authorities by submitting threatening letters and leaving cryptic clues at the crime scenes, police came no closer to a clear-up. Fincher follows caricaturist Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal), detective David Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) and journalist Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.), all of whom become almost morbidly obsessed with efforts to expose the killer. These characters are based on authentic characters.
