Zweiland

Furious dance and poetic images: In front of a symbolic wall, rhythmic, energetic movement sequences illuminate the vibrant vibes of a street. The piece “Zweiland” by Sasha Waltz is almost exactly 30 years old. In the fast-paced and surreal choreography of “pictures from Germany” — and about borders and overcoming them — everyday situations tilted into the absurd meet character studies and fairytale images. Seven performers interpret German songs from different centuries and merge music and dance into one.

The piece is called “Zweiland” almost prophetically, not “Einland.” After the resumption in August 2026, the spectacular, ambiguous production returns to the radial system — a new generation of dance catapults the iconic piece into the here and now.
