We invite you to take a tour of the exhibition dedicated to the Ajns — the indigenous inhabitants of northern Japan — and Bronisław Piłsudski, the elder brother of Józef Piłsudski, an exile and an outstanding researcher of the cultures of the peoples of the Far East. Convicted of participating in a conspiracy on the life of Tsar Alexander III, he spent many years in exile on Sakhalin, where he began ethnographic research. A special place in his work is occupied by documentation of the language, customs and beliefs of the Ainu people and unique recordings of their songs.
During the tour, we will learn the story of Bronisław Piłsudski's extraordinary encounter with the Ainu culture and look at the tangible and intangible traces of their heritage. Historical photographs, everyday objects and research materials will allow you to discover the world of tradition, and their juxtaposition with contemporary art will show how Ainu culture is nurtured and interpreted today.
Duration: approx. 60 minutes.
Certified museum guides Elżbieta Finzi, Wiktoria Wolińska-Kowal and Dawid Finzi will guide you.
The event as part of “Independent is us! National Independence Day at the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejowek”. You can find the full program of the celebration here: Independent is us!
