About the event

The energetic, galloping La Chasse from the collection of 6 quartets of Nikolai Cherepnin presents a very picturesque and vigorous hunting scene. A similar illustration is drawn by Gilbert Winter's Hunters Moon reflecting the humorous story of a hoppy hunter dreaming of the goddess Diana. Contrasting with the mysterious atmosphere of Eugène Bozza's Sur les cimes, he guides the listener through extensive, lyrical phrases that paint the soundscape of mountain peaks. Robert Schumann's Adagio und Allegro moves from melancholy to daring virtuosity, and the composer's wife, Clara, described the work as “brilliant, fresh and full of passion”. The three sides of the horn are represented by each of Jean Françaix's Divertimento — from the lively Introduzione, through the melodic Aria di cantabile to the playful Canzonetta — and the multiplicity of colours and the interactions between the soloist and the accompaniment make this work extremely charming. The Villanelle of Paul Dukas, teacher of Messiaen and Duruflé, refers to the traditions of Italian pastoral songs and historical natural horns. Trygve Madsen's sonata for horn and piano is characterized by a wealth of themes and a classical sonata form dressed in a contemporary musical language, full of lyricism and flair.
